I worked with “Michelle” (all identifying info changed for privacy) to create this map showcasing her family’s origin story. She knew right away that she wanted to feature where she grew up, where her husband grew up, and where their kids are growing up. I realized all three locations were islands and decided “float” them together on a page-filling ocean. The little airplane, ferry, and taxi may be my favorite element of this map and their paths tie together the three islands to create a cohesive design.
